I got up this morning, and I thought about so many things as I took a sip of my hot tea. My mind was going at max speed, and out of nowhere, I thought about the Fisherman’s Knot. I cannot tell you the reason why this was the thought that stood out in my mind, but it was. It was strange if I may say because I am not enthusiastic about going fishing at all. I began to wonder what it was about the fisherman’s knot that had me thinking about it? What is the significant meaning and why is it of such importance to me? As I began to ponder these thoughts, I finally realized why it was on my mind. The fisherman’s knot is very significant to marriage also.
I am passionate about teaching the subject of marriage and relationship. I firmly believe in what marriage stands for in the body of Christ and the world. I am always thinking about ways we can help people succeed in marriage and life.
I started to do some research, and this is what I found out.
The fisherman’s knot is considered to be the strongest of all knots. I found out that many couples getting married perform this knot ceremony at their wedding. The fisherman’s knot represents a lot of things.
The fisherman’s Knot has three cords.
And is often overpowered by another; two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12.
The Cord of a three strands ceremony is often described as (“God’s Knot” or the Unity Braid Ceremony) which symbolizes the joining of one man, one woman, and God into a marriage relationship. The Cord of Three Strands is a symbol of that sacred union created on a couples wedding day.
That third string represents God who is the creator of marriage. Marriage is stronger with God in it. I am convinced that when a couple keeps God in the core or center of their marriage, they have a better chance of building a successful marriage. Marriage takes three; you, your spouse, and God. It was God who taught us to love; therefore by keeping Him at the center of your marriage, His love will continue to bind you together as one throughout your marriage. That is the beauty of the fisherman knot; it represents a strong bond and unity.
Getting married is often expressed as two people tying the knot. Tying the knot is a first wedding ceremony whereby a couple symbolizes their undying love for each other using colored cords. Performing this service shows the strength and union of their marriage.
The fisherman’s knot is designed to get stronger under pressure. The more the fish pulls at the line, the tighter the knot gets. The rope will break before the knot becomes undone. This Expresses the power of unity. Unity is strength.
I think this is how God intended for you to be in your marriage. The more the enemy tries to bring problems in your marriage, the stronger you and your spouse should be. Remember that God is the third string. With Him in your marriage, along with the Holy Spirit guiding you, I believe you can become victorious in every situation. I declare that your marriage will withstand every negative pressure that life throws at you.
Ask God to let your marriage be like the Fisherman’s Knot, you and your spouse will get stronger under pressure. The more resistance you face, the stronger you and your spouse become with God’s help. Notice that the Fisherman’s knot never becomes lose no matter what is happening to the line. I pray that this is the foundation of your marriage. You are not easily broken like the knot because God is keeping you glued to him in marriage.
