And the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” . . . So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, He took one of the man’s rib and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib (side) he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (Gen 2:18, 21 22)
Long before God created man, it was in his plan to create the family unit. In order for that to happen, he needed a man and a woman. The family is very important to God, and we see this with a set of people that he established from the beginning to procreate and start the human race.
As we look in the Bible we see how God declares that it is not good for man to be alone. God decided to put the man to sleep, took a rib from him and create the woman. Why did God choose to do it this way? Why did he create Adam then take a part from him and create another person? Please keep in mind that God did not make the same image in terms of sex, the second was different yet alike in many ways “bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh.” When Adam opened his eyes, he recognized what was in front of him, a beautiful, amazing human being is different many ways, yet she is of his own flesh. When Adam woke up from of his sleep he saw a beautiful woman in front of him. God presented the woman to the man. This is similar to the father walking his daughter down the aisle and handing her to a man who will now love and care for her.
“And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man.” Genesis 2:23
God gave marriage as a gift to Adam and Eve. they were created perfectly for each other. Marriage was not just for convenience, nor was it brought about by any culture. it was instituted by God.
If you look closely at this, you will see the Trinty in full display. The Trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is a family, and thus man in God’s image must be made a family as well. Therefore, a man cannot completely realize the essence of his existence until he learns to exist with someone and for someone. Both relationship and communion are crucial to this process.
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24).
For what reason is a man to marry a wife? The woman was originally a constituent part of a man and she must return to become one with him again, so that the full expression and design of God’s image in human beings can be revealed. It does not reveal when you live with a man out of marriage but rather when you go into covenant together in marriage because marriage honors God.
We also see another parallel between the Old Testament type and the New Testament fulfillment. We see that Eve was united and became one with Adam just as we are with Christ. There is a profound intimate relationship that God desires to have with man. The marital covenant in all aspect is meant to spiritually reveal the image of God in ways that we cannot understand through the physical but through the spiritual.
“For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave his life for her” Ephesians 5:25
Paul devotes twice as many words to tell husbands to love their wives as telling wives to submit to their husbands. How should a man love his wife? (1) He should be willing to sacrifice everything for her, (2) make her well-being of primary importance, and (3) care for her as he cares for his own body. No wife needs to fear submitting to a man who treats her in this way.”
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
This kind of mutual submission preserves order and harmony in the family, while it increases love and respect among husband and wife and family members.”
There are many scriptures that talk about the marriage Jesus talked about marriage too.
“This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united as one. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one split apart what God has joined together” Mark 10: 7-9
Jesus also refers to the kingdom of God as liken unto 10 virgins five were wise and five were foolish. Matthew 25:1
And he saith unto me, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, “these are the true sayings of God.” Revelation 19: 9
Satan spends most of his time attacking marriages because marriage reflects the image of God. Fatherhood and human sexuality is of great importance and marriage is incredibly imperative to God’s plan for man and the comprehensive expression of His Glory.
Don’t be alarmed if your marriage is under attack by the devil Adam and Eve marriage was attack too. However, the Holy Spirit is with us and he will help us to overcome the enemy plans and attack against our marriage.
